Overview
Combining the story of the oak (old Slavic name "dub") and the local maritime heritage, DUBoak - Maritime Heritage Interpretation Center introduces us to the story of the Dubašljan forest and the traditional vessels of this area, their connection with Venice and their importance for the island of Krk.
Holm oak, which once dominated the forests of Krk island, was one of the important export raw materials that was transported by sea to Venice.
Through an interactive display, we will learn about the specifics of the oak forest on the island of Krk, from so-called drmuni, the way of forest management, to the specifics and knowledge required for the construction of marine vessels.
The center's setup consists of an interior and an exterior exhibit. The interior display combines the story of the Dubašljan forest, the significance of the oak for the area of Malinska and Dubašnica, and the traditional boats that are created from it. You will get to know the oldest type of ship, as well as other ships such as guc, bracera, and loger. You will have the opportunity to set sail in virtual sailing and have fun in the center's model room.
Through the exterior display, we will learn about different types of pasara and the oldest harbor light on the island of Krk—the Malinska Lantern, which was lit for the first time in 1871.
- Tickets for groups (20 or more people) are also available on request at 3 €/person.
- Family ticket (2+2) is 11 €, on request.
