Olive Oil – The Essence of the Mediterranean
Olive oil has always been a cornerstone of Mediterranean cuisine, valued for its rich flavor and proven health benefits. On the island of Krk, it is an essential ingredient in local gastronomy, adding depth and character to traditional dishes.
Today, around 120,000 olive trees are cultivated on Krk, many of which are between 200 and 300 years old. The harvest season lasts from October to mid-December, with the olives being carefully hand-picked to ensure the finest quality.
The annual production of olive oil on the island reaches approximately 130,000 liters, a testament to Krk’s long-standing olive-growing tradition.
The reputation of Krk’s olive oil dates back to Roman times, when the famous Oleum Liburnicum was highly prized for its superior quality and exported across the empire.

In Porat, near Malinska, along the picturesque promenade "Walking the Path of Our Ancestors", lies the Jud Family Olive Grove. This family has been dedicated to cultivating olives and producing exceptional olive oil for four generations.
Their boutique production focuses on small, high-quality batches, with olives being hand-picked and processed within 24 hours to preserve their freshness and aroma.

During your guided tour, you will have the opportunity to taste two outstanding olive oils, each with its own distinctive character:
- Utla Plominka – A mono-variety olive oil made from the indigenous Plominka variety, which grows exclusively on the islands of Krk and Cres. This oil is known for its delicate yet rich flavor with subtle aromatic notes.
- Utla Blend – A multi-variety olive oil, crafted from a harmonious blend of native Croatian and select Italian olive varieties, creating a perfect balance of intensity and smoothness.
