Perušić is located in the northwestern part of the Lika field, only 15 km from Gospić.

Perušić is well-connected traffic-wise and there are as many as 3 national parks near Perušić: Northern Velebit, Paklenica and Plitvice Lakes. Perušić has a long history. It was first mentioned in the 10th century under its then name of Buške Vrhovine.
