2 exciting suggestions for a day trip to the island of Krk

1. From Omisalj through the interior of the island to the east coast and the town of Krk

Our first suggestion is to make the 1st stop in Omišalj, immediately after arriving to the island of Krk. Omišalj is a small town with a rich history.  Walk into the old town center towards Stomorina - the parish church of the Assumption of Mary, which is a real treasury of sacral art, built at the turn from the 12th to 13th century. The rosette, a round stone window with a Glagolitic inscription, is also very striking. Continue to the Dubec lookout and the water tower, and through the beautiful Dubec park, you can descend to the sea. Near Omišalj, there are the remains of the Roman city of Fulfinium, as well as the remains of an imposing early Christian basilica from the 5th century. We definitely recommend that you take some time to discover this valuable archeological site. After Omišalj head towards Soline bay, known for its healing mud. Who knows, if you are traveling in the summer, you might feel inspired to take a bath here and apply some healing mud. Continue inland to Dobrinj - a small picturesque town that will conquer you with its streets and lookouts. There is also the Infeld Gallery, which has fascinating exhibitions and you can also visit the ethnographic collection. After Dobrinj, head to Vrbnik, a small town known for its Glagolitic heritage, fascinating old town and excellent wine. We suggest you take a walk through Vrbnik, visit its sights, pass Klančić - the narrowest street, and then refresh yourself in one of the taverns with island specialties and, of course, the famous autochthonous Vrbnik Žlahtina wine. After Vrbnik visit the town of Krk, which will surely delight you with its history and rich cultural heritage. Be sure to visit Kamplin Square with the Frankopan Castle and Cathedral. Our suggestion is to take a stroll to Glagolitic Square next to the former northern city gate, which once housed as many as 4 monasteries. Also, discover the remnants of the  Venus Temple, where you can even have a coffee.  At this point, you will be full of impressions and plans for your next visit to Krk…

2. From the town of Krk to the south of the island and across Vrbnik and inland back to the bridge

Here is our second suggestion for your day trip to Krk. First, visit the town of Krk, take a stroll through the old town, and discover its sights. Then continue to Punat and board one of the boats that drive to the islet of Košljun with the Franciscan monastery. Be sure to then take the panoramic road to Stara Baška. In the summertime, you can also take a swim at one of the beautiful beaches in Stara Baška, our suggestion is that you discover the Oprna Beach. After that, continue to Baška, and in Jurandvor, at the entrance to Baška, we suggest stopping at the church of St. Lucija, in which the well-known Baška Tablet was found. Baška is primarily known for its beach, but it is definitely worth discovering its old town. There are beautiful promenades in the vicinity of Baška - marked hiking trails, as well as the Baška Glagolitic Trail. Continue to Vrbnik on the way back and head towards the bridge through the interior of the island. Who knows, maybe you still have some time to have a coffee in Malinska or Omišalj? If you have only come to Krk for a day trip, now is probably the time to go back, and we are sure to see you again soon on the island of Krk!
